Remember the Future?

I’ve been spending a lot of time online in what used to be called videoconferencing, using those connections to record interviews. Came across this image that seemed a perfect retro reference to the new way we can all communicate.

In my reflections on this process, I see we are in a phase where on the phone I am disembodied, while in video on the web I am located in a type of body, or a place/image which I identify as “me”.

This is fun stuff and (yet another) revolution.

Fun with Flip Video

Yes, I’ve been really enjoying my new Flip Ultra – even though the Mino is the big deal these days, it’s not available in Canada and somehow I got the fever: “Must get Flip video camera now!” So we got it today, from Wal-Mart and I’ve been merrily fooling around with it all afternoon. Don’t believe what they tell you about the Ultra not working with the Mac – no problems at all. And as to importing to iMovie: yes; seamless.

Here are all the colours, but I went for the black – only because it was all they had, and I wanted it Now Now Now.

Watch this space for some of the Flip experiments. Yes I know they aren’t 16:9, but it’s so much fun to use I just don’t care. And compared with lugging around my old big Sony…. well, there’s no comparison. Especially when it comes to price. What a great toy!

Fun with Photo Booth

Sunshine in Vancouver brings out the best in us all, and no one wants to stay indoors unless forced. So yesterday I played up on the roofdeck with the Photo Booth application that comes with the mac.

I love the automatic way it forces out an iconic image. Plus there’s video too. It’s dead easy to work and there is some serendipitous stuff that just happens with this software.

It’s been a busy month, with all the activity of spring – new projects brewing and more to do than time to do it!

Looks like this will be one of those “mark your calendar” events in Vancouver.

Bridging Media: Addressing the Challenges - this Saturday, March 29, 2008, 9:45 am – 3pm

Aimed to provide a bridge between the two communities of film/television and interactive/social media, I think this event comes just at the right time. The expertise we have here in Vancouver is remarkable, and the panelists assembled for this event have a lot to share in the short time they have available, so it looks like the whole day will be power-packed.

The tools are here and easier to use than ever, and the panelists are articulate and experienced in the slippery ever-shifting world of web/mobile/social media. Its free, its informative and it can change what you think you might know about social media, and more. Plus there is a door prize: a free pass to nextMEDIA, just before the Banff Television Festival.

Today I’d like to show you what Voxant is doing about helping people with breast cancer. They have put together a news feed on anything related to breast cancer. If you embed the feed in your blog and follow these instructions, any resulting revenue will go to the Frozen Pea fund, plus Voxant will donate an equivalent amount.
